Ingredients

  • 2 cups 2 milk (whole or 2%)

  • 2 tablespoons 2 unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons 2 all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon 1/4 salt (or to taste)

  • A pinch of nutmeg (optional)

Directions

  • Warm the Milk:
  • In a separate saucepan, warm the milk over medium heat until it’s just about to boil, then remove from heat.
  • Make the Roux:
  • In another saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until the mixture turns slightly golden.
  • Add the Milk:
  • Gradually add the warmed milk to the roux while continuing to whisk. Ensure there are no lumps.
  • Simmer:
  • Continue to cook the mixture on medium-low heat, stirring frequently until it thickens, for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Season:
  • Add salt and a pinch of nutmeg (if using), and stir well. Your Bechamel sauce is now ready to be used in your desired dish!
